ON ADJUSTMENT

The Philosopher-in-Residence Blog Series from Make Me A Plan's Principal Planner, Anna Pascoe
07.01.2021.

I'd wish you a Happy New Year, but I've probably reached my fill of trying to phrase that so it doesn't sound utterly ridiculous/like I missed the big news bulletin earlier this week (I actually did, due to falling asleep on the sofa, but I got the memo since).

It's been another worrying week of having to magic time out of thin air to alter plans, re-profile cashflows, figure out childcare and furrow our brows and so this fortnight I thought it would make sense to postpone the scheduled blog topic On Flourishing (a stretch of the imagination right now) and add some thoughts On Adjustment instead.

You may also like to return to our Make Me A Guest Blogger blog from Lockdown 1 (chez vintage), penned by Adam Pearson of Newquay Hypnotherapy and Cornwellfest:

Controlling the controllables is the best kind of medicine when you're feeling bogged down, overwhelmed or like the world around you is in chaos.

That's why I'm keeping it short and sweet this week and returning to one of our favourite coffee break-sized activities to help you regain a sense of control if everything around you is getting a bit Rudyard Kipling.

STEP 1

Write down 3 things in your life you would like to change

STEP 2

Write down 3 things in your life you enjoy doing

STEP 3

Adjust accordingly

This can be as simple as switching 1 sweet treat for a fruit, nut or protein-based snack instead. Having a cup of de-caff coffee instead of full-caff. Adding 10 minutes of doing nothing to your working from home to do list and being sure to tick it off.

It's all about achievable goals and small steps at the moment. Try this 3 steps to some semblance of sanity and let me know how you get on.

Next fortnight, I’ll be musing On Flourishing. Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this topic you’d like me to write about.

In the meantime,

Happy Planning
