ON LOBBYING
Do you ever wish things could be different but feel impotent as to how to make a change? This fortnight, this Philosopher-in-Residence is here with her top five tips on how to imagine your impact, and see it make a difference:
- Dare to dream. Don’t be enshrouded by conformity or negativity. Picture in your mind’s eye, the perfect solution or creation you are after.
- Do your research. Who are the key people in the subject matter of your dream? Find out who they are and how to get in touch.
- Get in touch with them! Politicians need big ideas from ordinary people. Celebrities (nepo babies aside!) were once people just like you and I. Tell them about your dream and how they can help.
- Widen the net. It may not be natural for you to ask for help, but make a list of friends, acquaintances, colleagues, relatives. Decide who might be able to help with the pursuit of your dream, and ask them for the help you need.
- Be persistent. Send follow-ups, remind people of the need for help, share small and medium wins along the way.
Next fortnight I’ll be writing On Saying Good Morning. Don’t leave us feeling ignored, stop by to read the blog next time. Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this subject you’d like me to write about.
In the meantime,
Happy Planning
